The Ale-Ian Society is Lubbock’s only homebrew club that is sanctioned by the American Homebrewers Association (AHA). Founded in 2001, the club has faced hardships over the years including the global COVID-19 pandemic which later lead to their disbandment in 2020. The club was later revitalized in 2022 by a few passionate homebrewers who met through the Ale-Ian Society Facebook page. In May 2022, the new group held its first official meeting at Auld Brewing Company in Lubbock, Texas.
While the club has experienced many changes over the years, their mission remains the same; to build a community of new and experienced fermenters who have a shared passion for zymology. The Ale-Ian society currently celebrates over 30 members in the West Texas region. Members have a wide breadth of experience in fermentation including beer, mead, kombucha, cider, and more.
Members meet for in-person gatherings at the old Yellow House Canyon Brew Works store every third Friday of the month. All meetings are open to the public. Meeting agendas include formal business, an educational topic related to zymology, and a tasting of members’ homebrews which are evaluated on Beer Judge Certification Program (BJPC) style guidelines.
The Ale-Ian Society also offers paid yearly memberships that have the added benefit of quarterly member-only meets ups. Previous paid member meet-ups have included private tours at Good Line Beer Co., Happy Bear Meadery, and Pinkerton’s Distillery. Paid members can also participate in internal club competitions, social events, and private gatherings.
All membership funds go back into the club to better the experience for all. These funds may be used for club outings, shared equipment, competition supplies, club brew days, and more.
